Esther took an entomology class in college, after which she loved butterflies. (Hannah wishes she could remember which was her favorite.) Her favorite color was green.
Hannah occasionally sees butterflies, and they remind her of Esther. She thinks they are small signs from her. “How very Patch Adams,” Esther would say. (You will have to see the movie to get the reference. One of the things Hannah misses the most about Esther is all the movie references they shared with each other. Also, Esther saw the real Patch Adams at U of I!)
It’s a little reminder of Esther, her life, and commitment to empower people with disabilities.
