At the Esther Lee Foundation, we are proud to continue the work of our beloved founder, Esther Lee, whose vision and dedication reshaped what independence means for individuals with and without disabilities. Esther’s life was a testament to the power of community, inclusion, and innovation. Her passion for creating equitable, empowering living environments has left a lasting legacy that we are honored to carry forward.

Originally founded as Able Community, the organization was born out of Esther’s commitment to redefining independence. She believed that everyone deserves the right to direct their own care, access meaningful employment, and thrive in a supportive community. Her mission was ambitious but rooted in compassion: to create affordable co-housing arrangements where people with and without disabilities could live side by side, sharing resources, support, and friendship.

In 2023, Esther passed away, but her vision continues to inspire us. To honor her legacy, we proudly renamed the organization the Esther Lee Foundation. This name reflects not only her pioneering spirit but also our commitment to advancing her mission and ensuring her values remain at the heart of all we do.
